Hello and welcome to my website!

My name is Maud van Lohuizen and I’m an illustrator living in Groningen, the Netherlands.

Growing up close to the forest, dunes and beaches of Noord Holland, I have always been close to nature. I would imagine the most fantastical stories and creatures living in the forest close to my home. As an artist I want to give people what I enjoyed most as a child: a sense of magic in an otherwise quite ordinary world.  Magical entities and fantastical creatures are my favorite things to make and I enjoy telling their stories in my illustrations.

My favorite medium to work with is everything that is liquid. With this I mean mostly ink and watercolor. I love how water makes the paint flow over the pages and how watercolor seems to have a will of its own, resulting in wonderful shapes. I also like working with pencils and digitally in procreate.  

I have been focussing on learning more about animals. I study them to make sure my own creatures get the best anatomy possible. This is a never-ending journey I enjoy very much.
